Our approach to curriculum
Our curriculum is created with hands-on play at the forefront, while rooted in the fundamentals of social interaction, behavioral responsibility, and emotional expression. Our teachers help foster this type of approach by creating real-life situations where students can learn by doing. From cooking to dining, from building block structures to artistic expression, the children use their imagination and tactile skills to engage their minds in creative experiences. This also allows the teachers to connect with the students as they work together on proper social, behavioral, and emotional interactions with others. The students learn about the nuances of sharing, patience, teamwork, pride, and setbacks. More importantly, they learn not to give up when something does not work the first time.
Reading Readiness
We read stories to the children that are interesting, fun, and relevant to the subjects which they will be learning about. Through this interaction, children are encouraged to express their opinions and thoughts about the stories. Children also learn about letters, sounds, and how to read from left to right.
Gross and Fine Motor Skills
By working on puzzles, practicing finger plays, and writing their names, the children develop important motor skills, which helps them gain confidence about their abilities. We encourage them to run, jump and climb outside to use their large muscles and develop their sense of balance.
Social Skills
The children are provided with a secure and safe environment, giving them opportunities to practice their social skills. We encourage them to play with blocks and games, and play pretend with other children, including our teachers. Through this, the children learn to solve problems constructively, be a part of our community, and how to get along with others.
Language Development
Each child is encouraged to use language through play, peer-relations, and teacher-child interactions. This helps build vocabulary, allowing them to articulate their thoughts and feelings, as well as to problem-solve. They are encouraged to make up stories, sing songs, play listening games, and even to role play.
Emotional Development
To help the children develop a positive self image, we provide an atmosphere where they can feel comfortable as they develop a sense of trust and love in people and places. Our school is a safe place where the children can find good friends and helpful teachers, and where they can feel good about themselves through dancing, creating art, or helping others.
