History in the making.

Ahwatukee Preschool is rooted in the vision of Carol Latkiewicz, who, in 1979, partnered with Mountain View Lutheran Church to establish a play-based preschool. The preschool officially opened its doors in August 1980, drawing enthusiastic community support. In 1987, Diane Fitzsimons, a former kindergarten teacher, joined the preschool, eventually becoming the director after Carol's retirement. Under Diane's leadership for 30 years, Ahwatukee Preschool expanded, offering more classrooms and opportunities for children and parents.

In 2014, Diane introduced a "drop-in" program for 18-month to 3-year-olds, aiming to provide early cognitive and behavioral development and social interaction. Mary Adams, a mother and former daycare owner, was selected to run the program, turning it into a scheduled class with a waiting list.

After Diane's retirement in 2017, Mary Adams became the third director of Ahwatukee Preschool, continuing the tradition and vision of the previous directors. The preschool emphasizes innovation, integration, and collaboration among staff, families, and the church to create a safe environment for children's learning, play, and spiritual growth.
